Sponsor a student and change a life

You may be familiar with ActionAid, World Vision or Plan International. They all do a great job. However, we take child sponsorship to a completely different level.

Each year we grant around 15-20 secondary school scholarships (grades 9-12) extremely bright yet severely underprivileged children, carefully selected from a pool of government “feeder schools” as well as local charity organisations and across all racial and religious communities.

By sending them to one of the leading private secondary schools in Ethiopia, university entrance is pretty much guaranteed after four years on our programme. So far all our 76 EEF graduates have achieved places at university in Ethiopia, some even abroad (New York University).

For all our selected students the scholarships include four years of fully paid tuition, school uniforms, school materials and full boarding at one of our student houses. The facilities of these houses such as computer room with internet access, library and recreational as well educational facilities, 1-2-1 mentoring and group seminars can be used and attended by all eef scholars.

Sponsoring through EEF means quarterly updates about your student’s performance at school from us, and direct contact with your student per email. After four years our scholars graduate from the EEF programme and enter university. Our sponsors develop such a strong bond that they remain in contact throughout the university years and beyond. Some of them visit Ethiopia and stay in our houses where we have guest facilities available.

EEF is an effective child sponsorship programme, that produces measurable and sustainable results year after year without wasting any money on admin. We are all volunteers and nobody gets a salary apart from our local Ethiopian cooks who are employed via the School Of Tomorrow.

Sponsorship, paid once a year in April is £990 per student per annum (4 years). £495 of this covers the cost of all school fees, school uniforms, books and exercise books. The remaining £495 cover full board at our hostel and an annual clothing allowance.

Sponsors have the choice to either cover the full cost of a student or to cover either the food or the school fees part. In either case we encourage regular contact between student and sponsor in return to ensure a bond develops. Co-sponsorship makes the students happy because they have even more than one friend.
