Scholarship programme
Each year eef grants up to 20 scholarships (boys & girls) to talented yet severely underprivileged children selected from across all racial and religious communities. Our scholarships include four years of fully paid tuition, for the period Grade 9-12, at the School Of Tomorrow, one of Ethiopia’s leading private schools, and an annual sum to cover uniform, books and registration fees.
For approximately 50% of our students who are without any supporting relatives, eef also provides a safe room and food at one of our student hostels.
The School Of Tomorrow enjoys an excellent reputation as one of Ethiopia’s top private schools and its students continuously achieve top position in the country’s National Examinations. For the last ten years 100% of School Of Tomorrow Grade 12 graduates were accepted for degree programmes in Ethiopia, Europe and North America.
The school is the perfect partner for eef as its principles are closely aligned to those of eef.
Ato Samuel Woldekidan, Director of School at the School Of Tomorrow says “We strive to raise standards in our school working in harmony and mutual respect to produce better citizens who can compete, win and achieve in the 21st century. We believe that we can create better opportunity by trying our very best.”
Selection process
1. Nominated by a selection of government feeder schools, each October approximately 100 potential candidates are invited to sit an entrance examination set by the School of Tomorrow. The exam tests both English and Mathematics.
2. Each candidate must then submit a completed application, consisting of;
A recommendation from their current Head Teacher to support the application giving details of their socio-economic background.
Two years of past authenticated school reports.
A handwritten essay on topics such as family life and career aspirations.
3. Around 40 candidates are short listed for interview by the eef team. In many cases the interview will include a home visit so we can fully assess the need for our support.
4. Based on the examination results, application, interview and the home visit, as well as discussions with the school staff the scholarships are awarded.
