Dasash Fekade

Dasash has a big dream – to one day become a medical researcher so that she can help her fellow Ethiopians. With her impressive grades she is well on track to live her dream.

Ephrem Girmachew

Ephrem was born in Jinka in Southern Ethiopia, and he was the inspiration for eef. He has adapted very well to his new environment at the School Of Tomorrow and he is studying very hard to become a mathematician/computer scientist.

Esubalew Kehalu

Esubalew is a true fighter. Alone since 12 years of age, he has already good control over his life. He is a very bright student and would like to be a pilot for Ethiopian Airlines one day.

Jarra Fatene

Jarra is a ’doer’, he loves repairing things and would like to become an engineer after university. With his fantastic grades there is little doubt that he will be able to fulfil his ambition.

Muna Fedilu

Muna lives with her mother and her sister. She is a popular and sparkly girl. She is working hard to go to university to become a doctor.

Musbah Dilsebo

Musbah lives with his father who is very keen on Musbah’s studies. He enjoys excellent grades and is working very hard to become a doctor one day.

Sisay Fekadu

After the death of his mother, Sisay's only relative was his aunt who worked as a servant, washing clothes for neighbours and performing other day jobs. Her salary was not enough to feed Sisay, so he too had to work hard after school to be able to buy food for himself. Despite his hardship he remains optimistic. His results are amazing and he is well on track to becoming an engineer one day.

Tesfaye Worku

Tesfaye has set himself high targets. He wants to go to university and study politics. One day, he wants to lead the country as President. His grades back up his high ambitions.

Woubishet Leta

Woubishet loves looking after his younger brothers and sisters. One day he would like to become a paediatrician. He gets up at 5:30am every morning to study hard so that he can make his dream come true

Misganawa Zewdie

Misganawa is the mathematics genius of our students. His grades are amazing. He is not sure yet what he would like to study at university but whatever it will be, he has a very bright future ahead.

Ethiopia Mengistu

Ethiopia makes the most of her situation. She is very ambitious and uses every minute of the day to read her books and to study hard for her exams. She wants to be a doctor one day.

Rakbe Mulugeta

Rakbe is the most confident of the girls and she prefers to play football with the boys in her breaks. In school, sciences are her favorite subjects and she would like to study chemistry and biology at university.

Amelmal Wubishet

Amelmal's favourite subjects are Mathematics and English and he likes to read fiction books. He is very energetic and wants to become a journalist and write for the big newspapers in Ethiopia.

Belay Aiguchew

Belay is an orphan and had to rely on himself since he was 8 years old. He is a true fighter and despite the hardship he had to endure, is well on course to go to university and study physics, which is his favourite subject.

Bertukan Lemma

Bertukan has suffered a lot of personal misfortune but it has made her even stronger and more determined to go to university and change her life for the better. Her greatest wish is for Ethiopia to become renowned for positive reasons and not just for poverty and famines. No doubt she will do her part to make things better.

Endeshaw Menberu

Endeshaw left his family in the Ethiopian countryside at the age of 11 in order to be able to continue his education. He is doing exceptionally well and constantly achieves amazing results. He is determined to do well so that he can improve his family's quality of life.

Fekadu Demssie

Together with his mother Fekadu came to Addis Ababa when his father died. Unfortunately his mother is very frail and she cannot give Fekadu much support. Hence Fekadu has to help out as much as he can. His determination to succeed is second to none and he will prove that he has everything he needs to go to university and fulfil his dream of becoming a doctor.

Fekadu Habtamu

Fekadu's dream is to help Ethipia to grow and develop into a successful country. He is determined to study hard to be able to do his part as an engineer.

Gizalem Derege

After the death of his mother, his father continued to support Gizalem and his sisters as much as possible. Gizalem is a great all-rounder with particular strength in science subjects. He would like to study physics and astronomy at university and we are certain that is what he will be able to do.

Hannan Jenan

Hannan is a very sparkly girl with tons of energy and a passion for natural sciences. She is keen to study pharmacy at university.

Henok Degu

Henok's illiterate parents are very supportive of his studies but they are unable to help him. Therefore he has so far achieved everything for himself. He works after school and studies late at night or in the early hours of the morning to fulfil his dream, to study physics and astronomy.

Kassahun Yitayew

Kassahun used to support himself by giving extra tuition to children from better off families who in return gave him food and a little room to sleep in. He is a very clever student and well on track to become a scientist one day.

Melaku Melese

Melaku has really started to shine since joining the programme. He is a hard worker and we have complete faith in him becoming a doctor one day.

Mulugeta Techone

Mulugeta is a human encyclopedia on astronomy. Planets and anything connected to them is what he is passionate about. He constantly achieves clear 100% in Physics and his dream is to work for NASA one day.

Muluye Maru

Muluye is an amazing girl. Her father died a few years ago and she lives with the mother and her younger brother in a tiny room made of mud. Despite all the hardship, Muluye's results are fantastic and she continues to work hard to to be able to fulfil her dream to study medicine at university and become a doctor.

Rahel Tsehay

Rahel is one of our more quiet students. She has had many knock backs in her life but she is a fantastic student and very keen to pursue a career in science after university.

Seble Zenebe

Seble is a remarkable girl, full of energy, passion and determination to succeed. We are certain that she will work tirelessly to achieve her dream to study medicine and become a doctor one day.

Tadele Darage

Tadele lives with his two brothers in a mud house. His father is dead, and his mother is a farmer in the Ethiopian countryside. Tadele and his brothers are close but barely manage to even have the very basics in life. Despite his extremely desperate situation Tadele remains optimistic and positive about his future. With the amazing results he constantly achieves, so are we. Tadele wants to study engineering at university.

Tamirat Saboka

Tamirat left his family in the countryside of Ethiopia to come to Addis Ababa and continue his studies. He now lives with his grandparents and uncles who make a living by growing fruit and vegetables on a small plot of land. When we met him, Tamirat was working on the land in the morning before going to school and carrying fruit and vegetables to the market in the afternoon, only having time to concentrate on his studies late in the evening. The scholarship will give him the chance to realise his full potential.

Tibebu Molagshaw

Tibebu's aunt recognised his thirst for knowledge and helped him leave the Ethiopian countryside behind and move to Addis Ababa to continue his education. He constantly achieves top results and he is heading for a medical career.

Tsehai Tadesse

Tsehai lives with her sister's family who are very supportive of her studies. She is most interested in the science subjects and one day would like to study biology at university.

Tsegaw Abebe

Tsegaw studies 3-4 hours every day after school so that he will be able to go to university and study social science. He is aware of the importance of Ethiopia's international links and wants to contribute that way to improve the quality of life for his fellow countrymen.

Weynshet Kassay

Weyneshet is a very intelligent girl and very talented in science subjects, particularly mathematics. Her family is very poor but they support Weyneshet as much as they can. Weyneshet would like to be a doctor one day and we are sure she will be.

Weynu Bade

Together with his younger brother Weynu left his family for Addis Ababa when his mother died a few years ago. despite his very difficult situation, Weynu is strongly committed to his studies and his brother and he constantly achieves amazing grades. He dreams of being able to go to university to have a chance to change his and his family's life. We will make sure he will be able to fulfil his dream.

Zenedin Jibril

Zenedin is a mathematical genius and top of his class in most subjects. This is despite the fact that he has to look after his parents who are unwell. With his determination to succeed, Zenedin has a fantastic academic career ahead of him.

Selmawit Nigussie

Selamawit is our youngest EEF student. Her father is dead and she lives with her mother and four brothers and sisters in a very shabby house made of mud and without electricity or running water. Despite the day to day hardship, Selamawit comes across as a shy yet happy girl. The EEF board was particularly impressed by how concise and knowledgeable she was in explaining difficult scientific structures and has no doubt that she has a very bright future ahead of her.

Abel Belay

Abel is one of our youngest students. His father lives in the countryside, and being a traditional farmer, cannot support his family. Therefore, Abel lives in Addis with his hard working mother who is very supportive of his studies. Abel's school results are amazing and he has a very bright future ahead. His goal is to study Physics at university.

Anteneh Teferi

Anteneh lives in a tiny two room mud hut with his mother and five brothers and sisters. The whole family relies on the salary of one brother who is a truck driver. Anteneh's enthusiasm for his studies and future development is infectious. Despite a lack of resources he is very widely read and is keen to study Archaeology if he gets the chance to enter further education. In Anteneh's word ‘a man is not finished when he is defeated, he is finished when he gives up… I will not give up my dream to be an educated person.'

Bereket Achiso

When Bereket's Mother became sick, the family had to sell most of their belongings in order to obtain medicines her Mother needs. Bereket lives with one of her brothers and his family and her favourite subjects are physics and geography. Bereket would like to be a scientist.

Beniam Teklemariam

Beniam may just have the best writing of any student on the programme!  He loves mathematics, particularly the teachings of Pythagoras and plans to study engineering at university. Beniam lives with his parents and brother.

Abdelwrezak Jibril

Abdelwrezak scored the highest percentage score in our entrance exam. Despite living in a desperate situation with both parents seriously ill and not working, Abdelwrezak dedicated himself to his studies and assisted the family by working on a building site. Now, as part of the EEF programme, Abdelwrezak no longer needs to work as EEF provides a small allowance to his family and Abdelwrezak can concentrate on nurturing his incredible natural intelligence.

Amare Girma

Amare consistently receives straight A's for his school work. He manages to do this as well as being the only carer for his sick Mother who lost her husband when Amare was just a baby. Amare enjoys learning about natural phenomena, so his favourite subjects are physics and chemistry. His dream is to study engineering at university.

Lense Sheleme

Lense and her sister have lived with their Aunt since the death of their parents due to sickness some years ago. Lense is dedicated to her studies and she is fascinated by mankind's development through the ages. Therefore, she wants to study Archaeology and Biology at university.

Bruk Abate

Bruk is an orphan who lives in a single mud-made room with his aunt and three sisters. They work as cleaners and attend night school, and Bruk also needs to work as a shoe shiner and in other jobs to contribute to the family income. Bruk has put all of his effort into studying and obtaining excellent marks. He is committed to becoming a doctor.

Fasika Alemayehu

Fasika lives with her father & elderly grandmother.  When Fasika was 8 her mother died and her father struggles with a mental health condition leaving him unable to work and often not knowing who Fasika is.  The family can only afford to live in a temporary corrugated iron and plastic shack beside the river which floods during the wet season. In spite of these hardships, Fasika's grades are consistently at 90%. She wants to become a teacher and help other children in Ethiopia who share similar struggles.

Birhanehiwot Alehegn

Birhanehiwot has lost both his parents to Malaria when he was 10. At the time Birhanehiwot lived with his 10 brothers and sisters, however, without parental support the family fell apart. Before EEF, Birhanehiwot earned about 35 pence a day as a shoe shine boy, cleaner and labourer on a building site and he lived in a one room mud shack with no electricity or water. He shared this room with four other boys. Despite his very difficult circumstances, Birhanehiwot was top of his class with a perfect score in Mathematics. He is an amazing boy and now, with EEF's help, has a fantastic and bright future ahead.

Chala Gonfa

Chala's Father died when Chala was 10 years old.  Chala has ten brothers and sisters and his mother struggles with ill health due to her bearing a large number of children when she was still very young. Chala made the lonely move to Addis Ababa at the age of 11 in order to continue with his education. He has been living on his own in very poor conditions, in a stick and mud hut which leaks in the rainy season, sleeping on the mud floor.  He has been responsible for earning his own money by working many different jobs, including being a shoe shine boy. However, Chala has achieved excellent academic results so far. He has developed a passion for the English language and wants to study English and Biology in the future.

Fikra Dessalegn

Fikre's father abandone d the family to get remarried. His mother is illiterate and sells petty items at the local market. He has two younger sisters. They live in a hut made of plastic and iron sheets on the outside and plastered with newspapers on the inside to protect from the cold. However, Fikre manages to study hard and obtain top marks and he has plenty of energy and motivation to succeed.

Abeslome Bizawok

Abeslome is one of our youngest students on the EEF programme. His family is very supportive of his studies. His straight A's are only one indication of the bright future he has ahead. He particularly impressed the EEF board by how articulate, knowledgeable and motivated he is to succeed.

Berihun Mahitate

Berihun came to Addis Ababa in order to receive better education.  For a while he lived there with his Uncle and his family, but they were not supportive of his schooling and wanted him to work full time. Berihun has a great interest in Mathematics and Biology and wants to create new medicines to help sick people.

Temegnehush Abay

Temegnehush's parent's are divorced and for some years she lived with her Father and his new wife, but was not encouraged in her studies.  Luckily, her mother was able to find work and she and Temegnehush now live together in very basic conditions.  Her favourite subjects are physics, chemistry and social studies. Temegnehush wants to study geology at university.

Dibekulu Atinkut

Dibekulu's parents are illiterate farmers who did not support his ambition to study and none of his six brothers and sisters went to school. In order to avoid a similar fate, he took the initiative to move to Addis Ababa where he supported himself for years by tutoring younger students. He is highly regarded by his fellow students and teachers.

Baye Tesfa

Baye is originally from the countryside of Ethiopia . His father died when he was 18 months old and his family was forced by the drought and famine to move to Addis Ababa when he was still a baby.  Baye wants to complete his school and go to University to study physics. So far, he has done all he could to persevere with his education and now with the help of the EEF scholarship he will be able to realise his dream.  

Addis Belayneh

Addis left her family behind in the countryside to continue with her education. Her dream is to become an intellectual woman and her grades, particularly in English and Social Sciences show that she is on the way to achieving it.

Merry Tadesse

Merry had a particularly hard life before joining the programme. All alone at the age of 13 she survived by baking injarra in the streets and washing cars. She is now taken care of and we are very proud to have her on our programme. She wants to become a teacher to ensure that children get good quality education.

Seife T/Giyorgis

Seife has shown tremendous determination and passion to succeed in life. Despite a near impossible situation he has managed to not only survive but also achieve results that make us believe that he will be able to study at university one day.

Tekilu Cherkose

Tekilu's mother died a long time ago and he lives together with his older brother. The two boys are very close and support each other as much as they can. Tekilu used to work after school and during the weekend as a day labourer on building sites. The scholarship enables him to fulfil his ambition to become an engineer one day.

Wondu Abera

Wondu has had some particularly hard years. When he was 9 his parents died and he moved to Addis Ababa all by himself to start a new life. He worked hard after school to be able to eat and to have a roof over his head. Eef has provided him with a new lifeline and he is already starting to shine and exceed all our expectations.

Biniyam Girmachew

Biniyam comes from the southern town of Jinka and has been fending for himself since the age of eleven because of the death of his father and his mothers inability to provide for him due to her terminal illness. Biniyam now lives with his brother Ephrem, one of our older students, in safe accomodation provided by eef. He is making excellent progress at the School of Tomorrow.
